The first photo was almost certainly taken at the Fair of the Iron Horse at Halethorpe, MD south of Baltimore in 1927, to commemorate the history of the railroad.

This past Friday I met a lady at the B&O Museum who told me a story about her grandfather (a B&O accountant) being photographed on the Maryland in 1927. The gentleman tipping his hat almost certainly has to be him. In the museum today, the two Imlay replicas are always paired with the "Lafayette" a 2-4-0, that like the two Imlay's and the Tom Thumb, were built for the Fair of the Iron Horse.

The equipment in the first photo would make for an interesting photo event at the Ellicott City Station with the "Atlantic" posed on the turn table, entering one the engine stalls that have centered smoke stacks.
