On Sunday August 5, 2007 I had the pleasure of taking my family to the AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees baseball game via an 81 year old trolley car running over a 5 mile route from downtown Scranton, PA direct to the left field gate. Sound like fun? You bet. For $15 a head, you get a twenty-minute trolley ride (each way), tickets to the baseball game and an SWB Yankees hat. Sound like a bargain? Right again.Lackawanna County, in conjunction with the baseball team and the Electric City Trolley museum, has created an electric rail line cobbled together from existing routes and a bit of new right-of-way that – in my opinion – reaches the Holy Grail of railroad preservation: it uses vintage equipment to take riders to do something at the mid-point of their journey, rather than the much more common “out and back” round trip. There is no better way to interpret rail travel than to actually travel somewhere. Read the whole story on Ahead of the Torch: http://www.robertjohndavis.com/aott/ |

I noticed in your article that the trolleys cannot use their normal terminus due to the Steamtown parking lot closing at 5 pm. Question: is there any plan to include the trolley into the now planning transportation center? |

I rode the trolley last Friday. Truly a first class operation. A load of kids about 8 years old from a summer camp were on board. They had a blast, especially going through the tunnel & when 2 bears appeared near the track. Future railfans? Let's hope so. |
