Railfans vs Tourist

I told my wife that I was sure the railfan community would not like the iron work but that the tourists would.

It sure feels good to be right once in a while.

Yesterday one of my guests told me if I would get a photo of the new fancy caboose they would buy one it was the prettiest thing they had seen on this railroad.. I went and got the photos and just before the train left they picked out a colored one. While I was showing the photo to them another couple bought a Sepia one of the "Nicest piece of equipment they had seen on this railroad."

Hi Roger,

I sure hope you guys aren't going to use that caboose for what the scroll work makes it look like it will be used for!

I'm told that the "new" caboose is all that's left of the former wood, cupola, outside braced, CATS 05635. Is that correct?

CATS 05635 was built from outside braced D&RGW 5635 stock car and is (was?) the most unique caboose on the roster.

Yes...that is caboose 05365... the literately tore her down to nothing...as her design had apparently allowed key parts to dry and rot out.

When I remember looking at her frame in 2005-2006 she has gained a steel center sill. which will allow it to run with the Cumbres and Toltec's steel framed passenger cars. Aside from the railing, this looks like a pretty faithful D&RGW long caboose representation, down to a round roof. Hopefully with this being in Parlor/Charter service, the other replica, 0306 can be painted in a more authentic red for photo charter service.
