One of my recent trips (yesterday 8/23) took me by Norfolk Southern's Vardo Yard in Hagerstown. In the consist of one of the trains parked in the yard was a N&W baggage car with RCPX (or RPCX?) reporting marks. Also sitting in the yard was a N&W painted Alco switcher (T6 maybe?) with the same RCPX reporting marks. Curiosity has gotten the best of me, so I was wondering if anyone knew who they belong to, and where they may be headed. Thanks. |

That would be the Roanoke Chapter NRHS's Alco T-6 and baggage car, hopefully being shipped home to Roanoke. The equipment had been used on the West Virginia Central until 2003, and then went to Western Maryland Scenic for running gear repairs. The Alco and baggage car had been stuck in Cumberland for some time because WVC had lost the FRA card and CSX was being hardnosed about the move. The T-6 is ex-N&W #41, nee Chesapeake Western 11. The baggage car is ex-N&W mail-storage 1407, more recently the former NS Steam Program tool car. |
