My library in town secured a copy of "Highball" by Lucius Beebe. What an author! Can anyone tell me if his other books "High Iron", "Highliners" or "Trains in Transition" mention any thing about the Budd-Michelin cars? Reading RR, PRR and T&P bought these sets from Budd in the 1930's and ran them only a few years. T&P scrapped both sets here in Bonham, Tx and I am trying to track down information. The Budd Company printed "Texas and Pacific 150-100" and a copy just sold on Ebay. Does anyone know of other printed materials where information on the Budd-Michelin cars may be found?

The Washington and Old Dominion tried service with used Budd-Michelins here in DC in the 1940s. Here are two books that contain a few photos and some discussion:

Thank you very much. I had found where the W&OD bought used Budd-Michelins and used them for a little while but only reference I find about self-powered rail cars are Brills and such.

"RDC - The Budd Rail Diesel Car" by Donald Duke and Edmund Keilty, Chapter 3 is devoted to Budd's involvement with the Budd-Michelin cars.

Thank you. One tidbit of information is from Cy Martin. He had a discussion with a man name of Camp that scrapped the units in Bonham. He told Cy that the things kept jumping the track so the T&P built a platform under the cars so someone could lay down and watch the wheels to find out what was happening.
