No. 60 at Idaho Springs, not too long after the rails were pulled up on the Clear Creek line in 1941: http://abpr2.railfan.net/abprphoto.cgi? ... +s60_3.jpg No. 629, at Denver, no date, but pre-1957, as it got a silver smokebox that year. This is the one in the "meadowlark" episode on the Howard Fogg recording, where the bird would chirp everytime it whistled for a crossing. It was sold for scrap in December 1960. Both engines have a special meaning to me as No. 60 was the first locomotive I ever climbed on as a kid in the early 1950s and No. 629 was the last steam locomotive I saw in revenue service in Greeley, Colorado, in March 1959. |
