Known for its BLW diesels, it appears the line began with Harriman-design steam, probably ex-UP. They look almost like they were painted up for donation to a park, but they were not saved. Anyone know the story of these photos, which appear to be 1950s era?

Well, the 2701 is a second-hand locomotive to the Trona. Built by ALCo in 1915 for the Salt Lake Route (SP, LA & SL; then LA & SL) #3701. Then used by Six Companies construction railroad at Boulder/Hoover Dam. Sold for scrap in 1954.

The other two steam locomotives on the Trona were 2-8-0s new to it in 1914 from BLW.

Didn't a couple of UP Mikes get saved? Maybe they were a different class though than the 2701.

Some UP MacArthur types were saved. Orange Empire has one that had been on display at Oro Grande (north of Victorville), California. That one was built for the Salt Lake route in 1921 by ALCo as #3725. It was renumbered the same year to #2725. In 1923 it was sold to Oregon Short Line #2564. It went into the park in 1959.

My understanding is the the cement plant at Oro Grande is/was a Union Pacific customer although on the Santa Fe's line. So UP was involved with providing the park engine.
