In Koln, Germany, there used to be two turntables that overlapped each other. Anyone know if they still exist? Found some recent fotos of an enginehouse and turntable at Koln, but didn't appear to be the same.

Bob: Overlapping turntables!??? I sure hope somebody has a picture of them (even if they no longer exist) because I can't quite believe there ever was such a thing!

Bob,

I've grown up in Germany, so I checked on the web for related pages in German. All I could find was that the engine yard ("Betriebsbahnhof") associated with the Central Railway Station of Cologne apparently has two roundhouses, and the corresponding turntables are numbered 1 and 2. It appears that "Turntable 1" ("Drehscheibe 1"), and equivalent for 2, is actually also used to refer to the whole roundhouse complex (roundhouse, turntable, access and service tracks), besides the actual table itself. I haven't found any plans of the area, so I can't tell if the two complexes are adjacent to each other or even overlap in some way. It seems that railfans have little problems of getting to view either complex on a single day.

Cheers, Jochen

Sorry for the unrelated link, it was left behind by a previous post of mine to this message board.
