The 87 year old depot on Collins St. in Oregon, Illinois is in the process of being restored. Purchased by the town of Oregon, IL (pop.4060), from the BN in 1985 for $1 dollar, the depot is getting some long awaited TLC.
Amtrak ended passenger service to Oregon in 1971, and since then the depot has been used for RR offices by the Burlington Northern, and more recently for storage by the town.
A non-profit organization is in the process of being formed, and a museum is planned to be housed in the structure's interior.
