Has anyone heard any recent news from the Ohio Railway Museum? Their website hasn't been updated in over two years, and I haven't heard of any news otherwise.

I'm curious as to how their most recent revival campaign is going.

Any information will be appreciated.

Somewhere I heard that there were two very similar websites for them. One was .org and one .com, each representing dissenting factions. Am I missing the boat or can someone give the full links?

By the way David, I looked at a proof of the new Rail & Wire from IRM (Issue 213) and your picture shows a very sharp and well uniformed CA&E 'employee'.

Good news, this is somewhat encouraging. It appears as if they are making small, but important steps to getting back into the swing of things.

Bob, do you mean this smartly dressed CA&E conductor? http://www.irm.org/gallery/dchagar/aaa. I don't know who he is, but he sure dresses the part..... I didn't have time to get suspender buttons sewn into the pants, and the clip ons didn't do a good job holding up my pants. The belt coin changer with $27.00 in change wasn't the problem. Luckily, this has been rectified.

Has ORM decided not to sell N&W 578?

I recently overheard a conversation between two URHS officers that the ORM wanted its money for the Erie 5012 within some deadline (it sounded like before the year was over) or their deal was off and the ORM has another buyer waiting in the wings. From what I heard the URHS does not have enough money to move the thing, much less to restore it.

A very nice place for 5012 would be at the Marion Union Depot.

Did we ever get an answer to this question? Is the 578 definitely staying at ORM?

I have been a suspender man for a number of years--not just as a volunteer conductor at Heber Valley, but in my profession, too. I was really getting fed up with suspenders that wouldn't hold the tension--having to periodically take the needlenose pliers and 'reset' the angle on the clip. The heavy-duty ones for the construction industry (insert your favorite home supply--warehouse store here) were tearing the fabric at the belt line.

In the last 180+ days of wear, I haven't had a clip slip and to the wife's delight, no shredding of the belt band on the trousers.

I heard this weekend from what I consider a reliable source that URHS has taken ownership of Erie doodlebug 5012 and that it will be trucked out before the end of the year. Has anyone seen an official announcement? Any idea where it is going? I am hoping not to the new deadline at Boonton.

I'm a railfan and I live in Youngstown. Does that count? I lived in Columbus for a couple of years when I worked for CSX, and while I did some volunteer work for the Buckeye Central I never stopped by the ORM because of all the controversy surrounding the place.

There's been talk of a private group purchasing the 578 from the ORM. Apparently, individuals have made several visits to inspect the locomotive and tender.

If it can run somewhere in good hands, it should go!

An update on this topic--after several meetings and an official offer, the ORM recently denied to sell the 578 to an interested operator.

Hi:

On the way home from the Association of Railway Museums conference, the Minnesota contingent stopped by to visit the Ohio Rwy Museum in Worthington. We got there at around 12:30 PM and left shortly before 1 PM. The station looks freshly painted but there's absolutely no evidence of activity. No hours of operations, who to call for info, etc., was posted anywhere on the station building.

There were a couple of ghost train flyers in the depot windows but no date/time/hours so there's no telling how old they were. We drove over to the Silcott entrance road and the rust on the museum's rails was heavy (it may have rained earlier in the week, I don't know).

The Erie gas-electric was sitting in front of the station along with a brace of heavyweight passenger cars. The trolley overhead was in bad condition.

I know this doesn't really answer your question on ORM but my observations indicate minimal to no operations activity. Its also clear that no one from ORM reads Interchange nor does any other railfan in the Columbus area because if they did we'd have some kind of response from them by now, eh?
