The boxcar is being saved and has probably been removed from that location. Joshua PS- There's a restored boxcar at Steamtown, a wooden one, with Phoebe lettering. Restored though and inside. |

The boxcar was put on a flatcar this past Thursday. It is headed for the Delaware-Lackawanna in Scranton, where it will be preserved. |

The car was donated by NS to an Elmira area group, but they were not able to move it by the deadline so GVT/DL stepped in. DL will keep the car in Scranton and eventually restore it. |

1140 at Scranton, 6/48: http://abpr2.railfan.net/abprphoto.cgi? ... +w1140.jpg Sorry, none survived, but a CP 4-6-2 still runs at Scranton on occasion, possibly on the same track the 1140 is sitting on. That looks like what the NPS calls the North Turntable lead, and it may have been modified in the museum construction, but it is still used, sometimes by CP no. 2317. When we ran the Pullman Experience train in 2004-05, the train left from the South TT lead, and the North track was used for the Hand Car Experience. By the way, 2317 is getting some work done on her trailing wheel axle, and should be back in racing form by the time the Lackawanna RailFest takes place. |

I've been checking on the "other" boxcar in this thread and got the following e-mail from Rob Piecuch last week: "Regarding the car coupled to the DL&W boxcar in Elmira. The car in question is Erie boxcar #75486. According to our information, this car was built by General American Car Company in November of 1928. It may be the last of its kind in existance - with a catch - the onlyother two cars of this series that are known to exist were converted to camp car configuration. Both box cars are believed to have been in the Elmira Yard in various locations since the mid 1960's and were in their recent spot for about 20 years. They were both donated to the Chemung Valley RHS in 2006. The DL&W car was deeded to the DL in exchange for assistance with the removal of the Erie car, which has been vastly improved in the last few weeks considering that it had its pre-merger paint. The car hadn't been painted in at least 47 years, probably much longer. In a related note, Erie camp car #464075, once a 75000 series boxcar, is still in Susquehanna, PA and is planned to be moved to nearby Horseheads sometime soon, thus we'll have a before and after example of Erie 75000 series box cars within 5 miles of each other.
