This past weekend, I found myself in Kentucky visiting the family. I grew up in, and my parents still live in Bardstown, which is close to the Kentucky Railway Museum. I started volunteering there in 1994, and continued to do so up until my move to St. Louis in 2004. I hadn't been to the museum in a while, so a friend and I drove out there Saturday.

The ex-Monon BL-2, number 32 was pulling the train that day, with the Santa Fe, CF-7 #2546 at the other end of the train. Both have been painted in the recent past and look good.

Construction is complete on a new single track train shed for covered storage of equipment on display. I don't know the exact lenght, but it appeared to be several hundred feet long. C&O 2716 is under it, and eventually the L&N E-6, number 770 and the L&N wooden Jim crow Combine #665 will be under it as well.

For those of you who are Brill Motorcar fans, Frankfort & Cincinnati M-55-1, known as "The Cardinal" is back at the museum after a prolonged stint of off-site storage and cosmetic restoration. The quality of work done on the car was amazing. She was in the barn awaiting a covered display location.

Construction is underway on a new pavilion to house the Kentucky 40 and 8 car, which was restored a number of years ago. The car has been in off-site storage as well, awaiting suitible display space.

Overall, things look good at the old Museum, with several new faces.

I didn't have my digital camera though, wish I had.

Does anyone have decent shot of the track shed under construction? Also, does anyone have a contact at KRM, as we would be very interested in the costs and logistics here at SRI, as a structure of this type is part of our long range plan as well.

Museum's toll free number is 800-272-0152. Website is www.kyrail.org Believe they still have a full time executive director so calling for info should be easy if they are willing to share. I'm looking forward to seeing the restored Brill car. Hope they can eventually operate it at least for special occasions.
