Post subject:  Norfolk County RR Club (Mass.)

For anyone in the Northeast who might be interested, I just wanted to make mention here of the meetings of the Massachusetts-based Norfolk County Railroad Club which usually are held the last Wednesday of the month at the Morrill Memorial Library in Norwood, Mass. Their meeting schedule is posted on the library's website each month.

This group is very much a 21st century railroad club, not the typical aging railroad "historical" society. They are rather similar to the very successful and highly respected Amherst Railway Society, one of the sponsors of this forum. They run very "streamlined" meetings where the business session takes about two minutes and the speaker and program are given first priority.

Topics featured range all the way from traditional photography programs to very technical presentations covering modern operations and equipment. What is rather unique about this group is the high percentage of industry professionals who show up both as presenters and attendees, they often have people from MBTA, MBCR, CSX, Amtrak, FRA, and Wabtec present.

I mention the group here because they are an interesting example of what can be done if you can attract a group of people whose priority is the shared enjoyment of presenting and viewing railroad related programs with a minimum of other distractions.
