To see some photos of riveting being done on the mud ring of CNJ 113 go to the following web site: REPUBLICANherald.com Click on the photo gallery tab and go to November 3rd. This feature doesn't last long and changes daily and these photos will be gone in a few days. All of the mud ring is riveted, a full firebox door sheet and two partial side sheets have been welded into place. The door ring still has to be welded in place. Pilot holes are being drilled for the staybolts. Bernie Perch |

Question, when do you think the 113 will have it's test fire done? Len Pottstown,Pa. |

Len, The best we can say is hopefully sometime in 2008. Many staybolts have to be screwed into place along with their attendant holes and tapping in the new firebox sheets. In terms of plates, the firebox is solid with the door ring welded in place also. Much non-welding work can be done in the cold weather in the "shelter" over the cab area. The front tube sheet has to be welded in along with installing the tubes and flues next year. It is getting closer! We would like to thank Robert Yuill of Historic Machinery Services and Rick Musser of the Strasburg Railroad for all their technical assistance with the door ring. Bernie Perch |
