A few days ago I was watching the Encore Western channel and there was a movie on with John Wayne from 1938 titled Overland something or other with the story line that some guys tried to highjack a train, plane and bus. The train was a Southern Pacific but here is the hook. In any close ups, the SP was taped to look like 8R and the round logo was taped over to obliterate the name completely. One car had the initials T&NO. But in one shot where the focus was on the action on the roof, they didn't mask off the logo and you could see the round Southern Pacific logo clearly. Now in todays society I would say that the reason for this was that they didn't pay SP for the use of the train. But back then, who knows why the name was covered. It was a "swell" movie. A bit campy but "swell" anyway. Funny how many times they said swell back then. Later! Mr. Ed |

Once again, I repeat: INTERNET SEARCH ENGINES ARE YOUR FRIENDS. In this case, we should look at the Internet Movie Database: www.imdb.com A quick search there reveals "Overland Stage Raiders" from 1938: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0030545/ While looking for that, I also found 1954's "Overland Pacific" with plenty of railroad themes: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0047323/ |

I wasn't trying remember the name, just posting the strange events surrounding the SP name and its apparent hiding during filming. Later! Mr. Ed |
