Post subject:  Promotion for next season

While many museums are focusing on Santa trains, it’s not too early to begin planning promotions for next summer’s tourist traffic. One aspect that requires attention early on is your state and regional tourism boards and film bureaus.

Even if you have a relationship with these organizations, now is a good time to reconnect. People change and your reminder will keep your museum at the forefront. Find out what information these agencies need, and then deliver it promptly. Ask if your museum can have pictorial representation in brochures and websites.

Because tax money funds these agencies, there should be no cost to the museum. If your museum belongs to a dues-paying tourist promotion agency or chamber of commerce, a fee may be necessary.

In any case state departments of tourism/travel, regional visitors bureaus, and film bureaus (state and local) have long lead times when developing information packets. Make contact soon. You’ll be glad you did.
