a string of old boxcars are being scrapped.
It is believed these cars are PRR X32 round-roof boxcars from the 1930's.
(although the PRR heritage is not 100% confirmed)
They are definitely ex-DT&I cars though, DT&I logos are still barely visible.

It is believed the heritage is PRR to DT&I, and last used by Eastman Kodak in Rochester. Or the original owner might have been DT&I and not PRR first. There were 8 of them, 6 remain, scrapping is underway. It appears they have sat in this location for many decades.

I just found out about their existence a week ago and went to take some photos..

and here:

for more info.

Thanks for posting. Are any X32's preserved?

I think Scott Kwiatkowski is going to be seriously upset about this.....

It looks like there is at least one car that is not too heavily rusted out at the side sills, and there appear to be plenty of "extra parts" among the batch. But, it seems a bit too late to save one of these.

Howard,

Yes, it would be nice to save one and I am not aware of any X32’s saved. But, as you know also, talking about saving something and actually doing it are light years apart.

I would like to know if anyone has the information on who’s doing the scrapping.

I would like to get a set of PRR marked plain bearing trucks.

Scott,

I will see what I can find out and will also reference my detailed photos of these cars taken several years back. I just have to find them. I don't believe any of them have PRR marked trucks under them. They did have both DT&I markings on some of the car bodies and B&O markings on others along with Kodak internal plant markings.

Our museum inquired several times over the years to see if we could preserve one of the cars, but the owner was not interested in a donation or even sale of one of the cars. They had fallen off of our radar screen due to other priorities, but we'll try to see what we can learn and maybe save. They are on disconnected track and in a tough location to truck out of if memory serves me right, but it has been a little while since I visited them. But where there is a will and a wallet, there is usually a way. Sadly our wallet is not as full as I would like right now, but it never hurts to ask.

disconnected track = yes.
but very easy "trucking out" access..there is a dirt road right off a public road that runs straight to them..no problem there.

I plan to go back soon and see if I can get more details..
this time I know some specifics to look for (like markings on the trucks)
and if the scrapping guy is there, I will ask him a few questions..
it appears to be a one-man operation out of a pickup truck.

Guys,

Thanks for the info.

My X31a sits on AAR trucks. I would like to find a set of PRR trucks and use the AAR trucks for another potential project.
