| Post subject: | SAM Shortline on YouTube May 2005 Run |
Since I've mentioned the SAM Shortline several times here, when a friend sent me the link to a YouTube video I thought I would share. This was apparently shot by one of our passengers during a Saturday excursion back in May 2005. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KH4VyiadP4k Not exactly rail preservation, but for those who have not been south to ride you can see the equipment we operate. Ex-MARC coaches (PRR and N&W heritage Budd sleepers), one that has been converted to a tables & chairs car plus the FEC Budd-built BAY BISCAYNE tavern-lounge-obs, built in 1939 for the CHAMPION. It is now named SAMUEL H. HAWKINS for one of the founders of the original SAM Railway (Savannah, Americus & Montgomery). Before coming to the SAM Shortline it was at Stone Mountain Park. It went there from the New Georgia Railroad where it had been named STEVE POLK for the deceased Director of the Georgia Building Authority, the government entity that got the New Georgia going. Steve Polk was the driving force behind getting the state into the train business. |
