| Post subject: | IMLS Museums Public Funding Survey |
IMLS and the Urban Institute are conducting a major survey of current public funding sources for museums (state, Federal, local). Results from this survey will significantly shape the lobbying activities of AAM and many other service organizations like AASLH going forward. This is an important chance for our community to step up to the plate and participate in an effort of significance to all museums. I reprint below an article from the current AAM newsletter: Museum Public Finance Survey and Public Hearings Museums of all kinds are encouraged to participate in an important new study of public funding in the United States. The Museum Public Finance survey is part of a larger study, conducted by the Urban Institute through a cooperative agreement with the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), to examine how public funding is affecting museum services in the United States. It will provide a detailed look at the size and scope of public support for museums from federal, state and local governments, as well as help identify challenges this type of support may present and any funding gaps that exist. To participate, visit the Museum Public Finance website http://www.museumpublicfinance.org/ by Dec. 21 at 5 p.m. If you have questions, contact one of the Urban Institute principal investigators: Carlos Manjarrez at CManjarr@ui.urban.org or 202-261-5821, or Carole Rosenstein at crosenst@buffalo.edu or 716-645-2437, ext. 1468. As part of the same study, IMLS will hold three public hearings in March to collect opinions about the effectiveness of museum services from museum professionals, community leaders, educators, public officials and representatives of regional, state and local organizations. Details about participation in the hearings will be released in early February. For more information on the study and hearings, visit the IMLS website. —Eileen Goldspiel, AAM Government Relations |
