I was in cleveland today visiting my grandma, and seen a 0-4-0 on a lowboy headed west on I90! Anybody no anything about this? The truck said george sullivan horsehead Ny. on it? What engine is this. Were is it going. Thanks! Stu.

The engine is part of a purchase from Gordon Brinthrupt of Wellsburg, NY. The tender, which did not belong with the engine, went to Scott Symans of Dunkirk, NY. The engine was on its way to Ashley, Indiana. It will be restored by Barney and John Gramling. It is very nearly the same engine as Flagg Coal No. 75. We hope to be able to use this engine in the same way as we operate Number 75. It will also act as a “back-up” if there are problems with Flagg Coal Co. Nos. 75 or 126. The engine and tender came from Horseheads, NY where it sat behind a very neat Sullivans Diner since 1968.

Here's the facts:

Built by Vulcan Iron Works as their S/N 3885 in September 1928 for the A.E. Dick Company of Audenried, Pennsylvania (number unknown). Later sold to the Pardee Bros. Company and then to Jeddo Highland Coal Company and finally to Mr. Brinthrupt in 1968 . Stats include 14 x 22 cylinders, 150# boiler pressure, tractive effort 15,240# and a total engine weight of 41 tons. This info from J. David Conrad's STEAM LOCOMOTIVE DIRECTORY OF NORTH AMERICA Volume 1. Amazing that the number on this 0-4-0T is unknown on the three comanies that it worked for. The Gramling's can put whatever number they want on it. Anybody got a Vulcan number plate that they don't want?
