Post subject:  Broad gauge steam in Argentina

I was talking to a friend and the question was brought up as to when the last broad gauge steam locomotive was ran in Argentina. Thus I ask does anybody happen to know when the last one ran? In regular common carrier use that is. Thanks in advance.

In 1980 on the Roca the last locos of classes 15B (4-8-0) 11B (2-8-0) and various versions of class 8 (2-6-2T) are listed as being withdrawn.

Whether these locos actually worked until their withdrawal date I cannot say, they may have been stored earlier.

On a visit in August 1976 I saw a class 8 on station pilot work at Constitution station in Buenos Aires and from the air a class 11B in steam at Neuquen.

The above info comes from a book "Railways and Motive Power of Argentina" by Reg Carter published by:
