Post subject:  Pullman lettering

Some time back we had a thread that I started about Pullman car lettering. Since then I have found some sources.

The Newberry Library in Chicago has quite a bit of material about the history of the company and the later sleeping car operations. Among its holdings are the drawings for the lettering of the letterboard "PULLMAN" and the alphabet used for the car names on the sides. The Newberry staff found the drawings for the car name alphabet and they have now been scanned. The drawings are Sketch M.D. B/752 through B/760 (9 sheets) for the complete alphabet in full size (4-1/2 " high).

The full size letterboard drawing for the 7" high "Pullman" is sketch M.D. B/761. This is about 15' long and so it is scanned in sections.

The IRM/Pullman library also has drawings of the indivdual letters for the letterboard "Pullman" along with a spacing diagram. These c-size sheets are much easier to handle.
