I spent some time visiting with 4012 this past Friday and after buying the wonderful book on the Daylight 4-8-4s, I was wondering what others might suggest the best book(s) on the "four-thousands" might be?

Probably the one UP expert Bill Kratville did in the 1969-70 era, called "Big Boy" (catchy title, eh?). This came in two flavors that I recall, hard and soft-cover. Don't know how "rare" it is; try the usual search stuff.

This book had details about everything, including the attempt to burn oil in a few of the 4000s after WW2.

I"ll second that Kratville Book!!!! Has a nice full side fold out picture. I don't know how many time I've opened mine over the years. It includes the rail line schematic map form Ogden to Wahsatch. I would recommend it!!!
