Just heard that Klickitat County, the owners of the engine, plan to move it back from Pasco ASAP.
From what i heard it's going to be put on display at Wishram,if they can get BNSF to let them put it there.I'll post more as i hear.

Tom:

Glad to hear it's not going to be scrapped. Sorry to hear no one has the bucks for a full restoration YET. We can always look to the future.
This is a personal favorite of mine so please keep us informed, especially if there is to be a group formed to help either with the move or with maintenance when it gets to Wishram. I'd be glad to drive out there to help.

Please keep us updated on this locomotive. I have pictures of her at Maryhill, and she was complete with gauges, builders plates, whistle, and bell. I hope she returns as complete. I'm sure she will be cared for and looked after at Wishram.

But then again, she's only 100 miles from Brooklyn. Let's see, a UP pacific, SP and SP&S northerns, get the NP mike from Battle Ground, I think we'll need a GN loco to complete the list....Doh!

I don't know all the particulars here, but to me, it makes no sense to return the 2507 to the park in Maryhill to rust away, especially if it entails the risk like before, of dumping it off a barge into the Columbia River.

If there is no money to make it run again, then do a thorough cosmetic job, to preserve it for the day when there may be funds for an overhaul. I believe there is still part of a GN roundhouse in Pasco, and that would be an appropriate place to keep it. I don't know what the problem was with this project (personalities, egos, disorganization, or whatever???), but it would seem less difficult and a lot cheaper to straighten those things out and get back to work in Pasco.

Bob, this locomotive, as I said in an earlier post, was in fantastic shape before it left Maryhill. This includes the boiler jacketing. It was well protected and nicely displayed in the city park. About the only thing it needed was a paint job, as it had a good case of "sun fade". Maryhill, and for that matter, Wishram, are very dry parts of Washington state.

Wishram is usually mentioned as being "the last railroad town in Washington state". It's whole purpose was to serve the railraod as a crew change and locomotive service point. Unfortunately we're to late to save the old beanery and depot, as they were torn down around ten years ago.

I could be wrong, but I think Pasco was served by the NP and SP&S. Pasco also has a NP 4-6-0 in a park , and it's not to pretty from what I hear.

Gentlemen:
This is a great thread. There is an NP S-4 4-6-0 in Toppenish (up the road from Pasco) in the shop as we speak. These S-4's are great little engines and are easy to fire and run.
This P-2 class 4-8-2 has enjoyed good conditions in that it was in a dry environment and had a sturdy chain link fence around it. This class of engine had a great reputation on the GN.
I like Smokebox's ideas but the remains of the SP roundhouse in Portland are fully occupied with the 4449, the SP&S 700, and the ORN 197. Perhaps if we put her to bed carefully in Wishram, we can get her up soon and she'll be close to Portland and a great restoration crew.
Anybody know any of the Klickitat county commisioners?
Let's save this one!

Actually #1354 is in good shape for a park locomotive. The Washington State Railroad Historical Society is keeping good care of her. If I remember right she was repainted in the last couple of years.

NP #1364, that's the former Tacoma, via Mt.Rainier locomotive. Thank goodness a group has taken this locomotive on. It's been apart since 1974 or 75 if I remember correctly.

The Pasco locomotive is NP #1354.

I stand corrected. I must have seen an older picture, or one of the former Tacoma locomotive.

Well Klickitat County is an odd place(you should see some of the people they allow to be cops). in the early 90's a group was formed to start a tourist RR from Lyle to Klickitat and Goldendale (which had some good grades, bridges and scenery) but one of the commissioners shot it down because it might take business away from his restaurant. I think the only reason it's coming back is because it's theirs and they can do what they want with it.There's a lot of better places to put the 2507 but they won't listen to any suggestion that doesn't put it in the county.
