Scott Whitney has sent out a notice (I will cc below) that the Vermont Railway System will most likely be scrapping a handful of wood rolling stock. The VRS wanted to clear a bunch of relics off the property over a year ago to make room for the needs of thier booming business. And when i say booming, I mean it. I would not be shocked to find out that the line from N. Walpole, NH to Rutland, VT is busier now than in the Rutland days. As many of you know, there is a strong sense of history on the VRS. They operate two ancient Rutland passengers cars and care for a Rutland RS-1. Thanks to the warning given to railfan groups some other Rutland equipment on-site has been preserved. The railroad went far above what many lines would, letting this linger for over a year. Thanks, VRS! Rob Davis From SJW: Three pieces of historic equipment have now been lined up in Bellows Falls, VT for either scrapping or movement to museum(s). Long hidden former Rutland snowplow X104, ex Rutland RPO coach 270 and former Central Vermont flanger 4236 (GMRC 111) are all slated to go as early as the end of the month. The frame and trucks of the 270 are being taken by Strasburg Railroad at the end of January. They will use the donated material as a frame to build a new open air car for their operation. The body is a mass of rotting wood and will be scrapped. Plow 104 is deemed to far gone and too large to be economically loaded for highway movement and will be scrapped on site. Flanger 111 was originally desired by two different museum groups buy unfortunately, neither has the funding to save it and the body has decayed rapidly since first offered for donation. Anyone wishing to get a photo of any of this equipment can do so but must first check in with the GMRC office in Bellows Falls. Those who don't ask first will be rather rudely ejected from the property. SJW Faux Milk superc@monmouth.com |
