My reference for the NY&NE "White Train" is the NERS magazine New England States Limited, Vol. III No. 3, ISSN 0162-1599, article "The White Train" by Gregg M. Turner. At the Amherst Railway Society Show in Springfield, Mass last weekend I found just one person who showed any interest in this topic, Roger Hinman. To him for his researches at the Newberry Library in Chicago I am indebted for the following tentative identification of the Pullman cars ordered by the NY&NE in 1890:
Pullman Lot Plan Qty Type RR Number(s)
453 861 3 Parlor 301-303
456 858(?) 1 Smoker-Baggage 211
457 873(?) 2 1st class pass 212-213
In the Pullman Library at IRM, I located the side elevation plans and floor plans for the first two and the floor plan for the latter. At this point I have no other information other than layouts on the copied plans. The window counts and placement exactly match photos in the article. The type and number of the cars match one of the two identical sets mentioned in the article. I am guessing the other set may have been ordered at the same time by the NYNH&H for the jointly operated train over both roads. Any further information or interest in the history of this train is gratefully appreciated.
