I really like the photo of 4039: http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2399708 ... 3097qOQSbm It's nice to see a Army engine painted in it's correct paint, as so few "veteran" engines out there are painted in Army colors. |

They have 300K to get 4039 going again but the website says they need additional 100k to complete the job. Not sure what exactly it needs but with a price tag like that I bet its a boiler replacement. I will find out more when I start helping on 385. http://www.whippanyrailwaymuseum.net/restore4039.html The other issue is that they don't have a place to work inside on it so the work needs to be completed outside. Jersey is cold and wet. |

The big issue is that in NJ the county government distributes TEA21 money. The person in charge of this in Morris County (where the 4039 is) is against the project and has been doing everything possible to prevent the money from being used! I know the museum was trying to put political pressure on the county to release the money but the last time I heard it is still a political mess. |

I know the museum was trying to put political pressure on the county to release the money but the last time I heard it is still a political mess. SO, I just conversed with someone at the County about the project. I work for the County too but in the Engineering Department. The project was transfered to Hanover Township (the municipality the Whippany RR Museum is in) approximately 2 years ago. The County is unaware of what progress has been made since that time. The applications for TEA21 money must go to the NJTPA (North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority) but can be applied for through the County. However the applications are approved by and money distributed by the NJTPA. I am not privy to what happened in this case, and it opened a can of worms when I asked about it the last time it came up. |

Well NJ is in such a hole for money right now that money is most likely gone! Once the dust settles on 385 I will contact Steve Hepler about helping out and maybe get some details on money problems. |
