Has anyone ever heard of the Hallmark estate in Warrior, Alabama? They have the three locomotives form the long-defunct "Petticoat Junction" amusement park in Panama City, Florida. I've seen mention of the estate and it appears they're being run but could find nothing else. Is there any info out there on this operation? http://www.steamlocomotive.info/vlocomo ... Display=28 |

Info from my friends at ALRAILS Yahoo group... The loco's can still be seen from I-65 on the west side, just about the Warrior exit. They're on top of a hill next to some buildings. As far as known they are in very good & operable condition and fired up at any time. Not open to the public. I think they just fire them up for their own enjoyment. Nice toys, huh? Bill |

Odd. You see entire web pages devoted to when a certain locomotive has a spot of rust scraped off it, and nothing about these engines at all? Yes, it must be nice to have that kind of coin to have your own locomotives sitting around to steam up when the mood hits you! |

I guess since they're on a private estate not open to the public much news isn't heard about them.. If you Google map / earth, etc. the location, I-65 exit 280, Warrior, AL, you can see an aerial view of them on the Hallmark Farms Estate on the West Side of I-65. I have also heard that the owner passed away, so who knows, maybe they'll come up for sale. Bill |

Bill - The 3 locomotives are: Porter 0-4-0 c/n 5190 built 11/12 (originally an 0-4-0T) Porter 0-4-0 c/n 8217 built 11/49 (originally an 0-4-0T) Porter 2-6-0 c/n 5540 built 3/14 The Mogul was built as #1 for the Argent Lumber Company in Hardeeville, South Carolina. All are 36" gauge. Les |

I don't have that application. I looked on their map site and found what I think might be the engines, but the resolution is very poor and I can't tell. I'm just glad they still exist. I grew up less than 100 miles from the amusement park they were used at in Florida, but we never went by the place and I never saw them running. One of Ron Ziel's books really blasted the place but still, it was neat to know there was running steam not that far away from me as a kid… |

Les, Naaah! No dual gauge to Shelby. We can't even muster the bucks for std gauge yet!! Also, don't forget we need 2 bridges rebuilt! Then again, maybe dual gauge as far as the wood yard (Timberline Golf Course) would be possible. That's about 3 miles. We are working on the right of way, though. Cleaning, grading, etc. in Shelby. Maybe we could buy a few more acres of land and run a narrow gauge loop like we do the S&S only bigger. "Got Money?" Bill |
