The SS Oceanic, nee SS Independence, built for American Export Lines in 1950, left San Francisco under tow, allegedly for Singapore, but most likely for the beaches at Alang, India. She is the next to last surviving American built ocean liner. The SS United States still rusts in Philadelphia awaiting her end.

Independence's sister, Constitution sank under tow to India ten years ago. If it is indeed where she is heading, I hope Indy joins her sister in Davy Jones' Locker..
