Post subject:  B&O RDC 9913 parts help

I am with the Fayette Central RR in Uniontown pa. we have B&O RDC 9913 that we run on the weekends. What I am looking for is a part number book for the detroit diesel 6-110, we have a service manual but it does not have part numbers. If someone has one are you willing to sell a copy of it ? We had the emergency shutdown solenoid burn out and need to find the part number for it, then hope we can find a replacement.

Thanks

Tim C

If the rest of the solenoid is still serviceable, you may want to investigate just rewinding the coil. You should be able to measure and determine the magnet wire length and gage, and disassemble the solenoid to get at the armature.

Mount the core on a lathe and at slow speed, manually rewind the wire from a new spool mounted alongside on a spindle - not as hard as it sounds.

We resorted to that on one of our old diesels with a failed solenoid, the MN&S Baldwin center cab, at IRM.
