Post subject:  WRC Goes to Switzerland

On February 9, 2008, a two-man crew from Wasatch Railroad Contractors packed their bags and headed off to Switzerland.

Andrew Cook of William Cook Holdings, UK, recently purchased former SNCF 141 R 568 from a tourist railway in France. It had since been moved to Schaffhausen, Switzerland to be rehabilitated for future operation.

141 R 568 is a 2-8-2 built by Baldwin in 1945 immediately following World War II. This locomotive was one of hundreds that were built in North America and shipped overseas to help post-war rebuilding efforts.

Concerns arose about the condition of the side and drive rod bushings, and furthermore if the locomotive was out of tram. The WRC team made the trip to carefully measure the bushings, determine if the locomotive was out of tram, and generally inspect the rest of the locomotive.

Pictures of this trip, plus a bonus railfan excursion that WRC was able to attend, can be found by visiting projects.wasatch-rr-contractors.com
