What type of material is currently being used when hand cutting airbrake portion gaskets? Some of these gaskets are no longer available and must be hand fabricated.
Also some of the air oil products will attack different rubber and synthetic materials. When using hand cut gaskets the material must be somewhat thicker for a good crush and seal. The original gaskets have ribs formed for this seal.

For air brake gaskets you can use thiokol treated leather. This is what they were made from befor WABCO switched to rubber. For more information about leather air brake gaskets contact Dave Utzinger, C. W. Marsh Co., Muskegon, MI, 231-722-3781.
