Hummm. I wonder if he is associated with the game farm in El Reno, OK that has WP&Y 2-6-2 #4. I was contacted by someone regarding this locomotive a few years ago; who was concerned about it's future. If that is indeed the locomotive, then back home to the WP&Y would be a logical choice. (There aren't that many 3 foot Baldwins built in 1912; assuming the year is correct.) |

The locomotive in El Reno is now at a Church Camp in Adair, OK and nearing a restoration to operation. Loco is former Klondike Mines #4 and sat in El Reno from 1983 or '84 until a few years ago. It is being converted to propane. |

Jeff; Thanks for the update. Glad to hear it is in good hands now. So we are back to figuring out what this locomotive is. Still not many stateside that match his description. I guess we will have to wait and see. |

The only other 3' Baldwin that was built in 1912 that I know of is a 2-8-0 Quincy & Torch Lake at Pine Creek. |

One of the East Broad Top engines, #14, was also built in 1912 (#38625). Overseas, there are others. One is in a museum in Japan; it is operational and I assume is not going anywhere. Four used to operate in the sugar mills on the island of Negros in the Philippines; perhaps one of these. The other one I am aware of is a 2-8-0 that used to work one of the sugar mills in Cuba. I don't know if anyone knows what year the 0-4-0T on display in Palmer, AK was built; I don't have a picture in front me right now, so I have no idea when it was built. The year the remainder of the 3 foot gauge Baldwin-built engines I have in my database were built is known. Final option is that this is a previously unknown engine. Hard to believe in this age of the Internet and Google Earth; but a previously unknown Porter showed up in a warehouse just within the past few years; so it is not impossible. |
