http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.p ... 5&nseq=131 Photo comments have some unconfirmed speculation on the current status of this last ex-GTW 0-8-0 awaiting salvation or scrapping. Reminds me of the very last derelict loco remains that were left at the Woodhams scrapyard in Barry, South Wales after the other 200+ locos were saved....... |

Last word I heard on this one is that it is supposed to go to Quincy, IL. |

Maybe somebody from IRM can give us an update. As long as she still sits there at Galt, does IRM still have to pay the track lease? Les |

Too bad VMOT is in dire straights- they should buy it and re-create the last N&W S-1a. It's a damn shame that engine was scrapped. |

Les Per our GM, the engine is neither owned by IRM nor is it on the siding that IRM had been keeping its Galt collection on. This locomotive was purchased from IRM and the owner was required to move it from IRM's siding within a year or have it seized by the museum. When the deadline approached the new owner moved it to an adjacent siding - off of IRM's siding - to keep it from being seized per the contract. IRM is no longer involved with this engine in any way. |

Frank - Thanks for the information. This might explain why the KCS vanderbilt tender was not in the photograph. Or has the tender been moved off of the IRM siding and transported to Union? This tender, which apparently ran behind KCS 2-8-8-0 #759 is interesting because the rear tender truck was set slightly forward of where it should have been located to make the entire engine/tender length a bit shorter so that the 2-8-8-0's could fit onto existing turntables. Les Found this photo of the KCS tender: http://www.flickr.com/photos/11782152@N05/2074116690/ The rear tender truck being moved slightly forward is obvious in this photo. Does IRM have plans for this tender at Union? Les |
