Photo of ex-SP&S #539 at Williams on the Grand Canyon: http://www.flickr.com/photos/80651083@N ... 425158@N25 Former Northern Pacific #1762. The tender looks to be about the right size and configuration of the NP tenders that ran behind these engines, but most of the W-3's had "dog houses" for the brakeman behind the fuel bunker. There seems to be no dog house on 539's tender. Anyone know when the GC is intending to start work on the restoration of 539/1762? Les |

She hasn't moved an inch since July. We rode the GC over the summer and I asked when they were going to start the restoration. I was told not to hold my breath, that they had the motive power they needed for right now. One of the crew said, "We'll get around to her someday, but not tomorrow." |

I was part of the group up in WA working on her. 2 years later, i have moved to AZ to work for GCRY. Right now, she will be restored when they give us the budget to. I would say next year before any serious work begins to happen. The safeties have been taken off and rebuilt. One now resides on #29. |
