PGbusiness One-on-one contact is a highly effective promotional tool, but museums must have a strong core of trained volunteers to make it work. Critical to success of any trade show is pre-show promotion. Your museum will get more booth traffic if it sends out e-mails, postal mailings, and/or personal phone calls to prospects encouraging them to visit the display. Rotate volunteers when possible so people can have bathroom and meal breaks. It is bad form to leave an exhibit unattended. Have a means to collect names & e-mail, addresses etc. After the show, be sure to thank those that visited the exhibit by e-mail or postcard. If a visitor mentioned something about the museum that interested him/her, but sure to say in your communication that the museum can fulfill that interest. A thank you note is a neglected marketing tool, but it is an economical and important way to keep a museum's brand identity at the forefront. Sloan |
