Here is a Milwaukee Road 0-6-0 on display:

In contrast to the recent thread on the IC 0-6-0 at LA&SM, Milwaukee Road 0-6-0 #1416 shows that a non-railroad museum can get it right! The switcher, which was built in the railroads own Milwaukee Shops in 1908, looks absolutely great! Purchased by the Evansville Museum of Arts and Science in 1966 from the Wabash Sand & Gravel Company, the 0-6-0 today heads up a 1926 club car (The Tennessee) and a wood cupola caboose, both from the Louisville & Nashville Railroad. Now part of the Evansville Museum's Transportation Center, the engine is not only well cared for and under cover, but also accessible for photographs. There is even a standpipe (water column) as part of the display. And so we give the Evansville, Indiana museum a well earned A+ !

les,

Sometimes it takes a Hell of a long time for things to happen at museums.

Two examples that I am familiar with: at the Seashore trolley Museum the Cleveland Railways streetcar 1227 is nearly completely restored after 20+ years in the Townhouse shop. The street car was designed to tow a trailer and the STM has one that will follow into the shop.

At my own Western Railway Museum the Sacramento Northern 1005 is near the end of a $300,000 project. The car has been owned by the Bay Area Electric Railroad Association since the early 1950s, before there was a Western Railway Museum, before there was a Shop to work in.

If you have a car or car body there is a some day; if not then there is not the possible choice.
