The Conservation and Restoration Center is a specialized building for performing collection care on historic railway transportation artifacts including steam and diesel-electric locomotives, passenger coaches, freight cars and maintenance of way vehicles such as cranes and snow plows. Construction began October 5, 2005 and was dedicated on August 5, 2006. The CRC allows all types of collection care to be performed inside a heated building, including preservation, restoration, reconstruction and maintenance. One or more steam locomotive will be restored to operation in this facility. Completion of the CRC is allowing expansion of museum programs and is facilitating improved collection care practices.

Taken at Snoqualmie, Washington: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jacob_c/29 ... 372995569/ Hard to identify what all is in this string of equipment. Looks like a couple of MofW vehicles, maybe an old reefer, an unidentified car of some type, then a gon (or hopper?) filled with (what?), maybe four steamers (or what's left of of them), then possibly a crane, a passenger car, and.....? There are a couple of other photos accompanying this particular one, including a partial photo of an NP stock car and ex-NP 0-6-0 #924. Perhaps the stock car and 0-6-0 are in the string of equipment. Then again, maybe not. There is also a photo of a 3 car passenger train pulled by a red diesel, so something is being taken care of. But is there any REAL chance that any of the equipment is this long sad string might eventually be restored? Les

However, the folks at Snoqualmie are real experts at fund raising and grant writing. (TRAIN needs to try and talk them into presenting a seminar on it...) The photos I've seen indicate it's an excellent facility, and one most tourist railways would be glad to have. They also have plans for more. They've put years of hard working into acheiving this. Now that the restoration facility is in place, the future of that equipment looks a lot brighter.
