The R&R had a couple of saddletankers on the roster and working the quarry when the line was still in operation. A couple of the Rockton & Rion's steam locomotives still exist, but is this the only R&R saddletanker still around?

I'm not sure if this is the only saddle tank but I think there are more R&R engines in GA than there are in SC if I remember correctly. I think that is a little odd that a small railroad like that would have so many steam engines saved and over such a large area.

The 20 was twice as big as the 1 and "no number," so she was rarely used. The R&R considered her a coal hog. Yes, she's the only surviving R&R 0-4-0T.

The 1 and "no-number" were cut up in the late '70s or early '80s and were no great loss, as the R&R had pretty much run the poor things to death. One of them, I don't remember which, derailed in the quarry one day toward the end of operations -- not all that unusual. When Willie Mozie got down to see why, though, he discovered that the engine's driver tire had broken and fallen off! The tire was tacked back on and the engine was shoved out of the way; operations concluded with the other dinky.

There are only two R&R engines in Georgia, the 20 and 2-8-2 #31. Mikado #19 is in Greenwood, SC. Consol #712 is derelict in Rion Quarry. The only other steam survivor is 2-8-0 #203 in Knoxville. Superior Stone GE 70-tonner #203 became Atlantic & Western #102 in NC, I don't know if it still survives or not. Y'all are shaving with the other two R&R diseasles.

Isn't there a R&R 0-4-0T still in the quarry, near the 2-8-0? There was back in the early 90s, when I was volunteering with SCRM.
