Looking for engineer hats, adult and child sizes. Anyone have any good, reasonably priced leads? Possibly looking to have them embroidered as well.

Regards,

Joshua

For the thirty two years I've been at TVRM we have always purchased from the Camp Cap Co. in Villa Rica GA 770-459-3647. I'm always afraid they will fall to foreign competition but hasn't happened the last I heard.

Many engineers and firemen, particularly in the South, wore white caps with a blue band and bill (like residents of certain correctional institutions wear). A friend of mine found one of these hats in a store in Villa Rica, GA (but not the one that Tim mentioned) that is now closed. Unfortunately I got a little too close to a greasy crosshead with mine and need another one. Does anyone know of a source for these?

Called a Kromer White Top, made by Kromer. According to them, they haven't been made in more than 30 years. They have said they will not run a special order. For a while, a small outfit called Hats & Totes was putting together a version of the White Top but they appear to be gone.

Been looking for a White Top for years. Was standard RR hat in the east for many years.

Kromer's fit great and will last with proper care.

Hi,

Pin stripe hats are available from many sources on the internet. Just Google "engineer's hat." One is http://www.railwayshop.com/engineer_hats.shtml which offers adjustable, infants, kids, adults, and pink pinstripes for the girls. If you want one that lasts for many years, buy a Kromer. Also, the ones made in Georgia have nice lines and are comfortable if you buy the right size.

You are probably referring to Maine Hats and Totes. All of their hats are made to order as ordered, and they have been my rr hatter for a while now. Joshua, the only thing is they may not be a big quantity operation, you'd have to ask if that's what you had in mind.

Over the years I have had them make a couple of denim bill with pinstripe tops, both wide and narrow pinstripes, in both 6-panel style (Kromer) and the flat-tops. I also had them make a couple of blue twill bills with white flat tops.

I'll see if I can hunt up their number and address in the next few days. Maine Hats and Totes were always great with me, and they always called to make sure they were making what I wanted in the way and size that I wanted it. The hats are nicely made and so given all of that, I think the price is pretty reasonable
