Train order board still in place, outhouse to the side. All boarded up though. Is this on a portion of the NN that is not operated?

Yes, this is the Currie depot. This depot is on the old main line between Ely and it's connection with the UP at Shafter. Currie is about 76 miles north of Ely on US-93. Non of the track between Hi-line Junction and Shafter (about 149 miles) is servicable, in the future this track may be used by Sierra pacific Resources to bring coal to their proposed power plant in Steptoe Valley.

The last revenue service over the line was in July 1999. BHP Nevada Railroad sent its last train of concentrate north from its mill at Riepetown to the interchange with UP at Shafter on the morning of the 9th. There may have been a few speeder groups over the line since that time.

The city of Ely and the White Pine Historical Railroad Foundation reacquired the NN trackage from Ely to Cobre from the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power on Feb. 27, 2006.
