From Train Orders, passed on by Bob Yager... At a little after 1:30PM today (4-7-08), legendary Colorado photographer and historian Richard H. Kindig passed away peacefully at Lutheran Exempla Hospice in Wheatridge, CO. He was 92 years of age. Rich had been unable to walk for over five years, and recently developed several other substantial health problems. He entered a nursing home in early January, living there for about three months. He was only in the hospice for a little over a day. At his request, there will be no services. He will be interred at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Englewood, CO. He is survived by his sister Norma Holder, her husband Bert, and a group of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother. - Al Chione |

A sad loss to be sure, but at his age, not unexpected. His photography of the Union Pacific and Rio Grande narrow gauge with along with his late friend Ross Grenard were epic contributions to railroad history. I'm sure that he and Ross are having quite a reunion hunting down UP 4-8-2's and other gems no longer with us on this earth. |
