Post subject:  Scrap Steel Prices

The thread on the Milw skytops has brought up the asking price of $25000 for basically 3/4 of a car. The current spot price for prepared scrap steel is/or was around $600 per ton this week. Everybody needs to take a long hard look at their favorite dream projects to factor in what the 'current' owners think they might realize if they dispose of the equipment to a scrapper. The current price spike happens just about this time every year as the steel mills clean up their winter supplies and before the new spring influx starts. This price should be temporary but people will remember and use this as a basis for their decisions over the next year on whether they donate or scrap. This could be a long summer of fire drills to save significant pieces.
