 Post subject: Locking Fuel Caps

With the increasing cost of Diesel fuel, has anyone experimented with any new designs for locking caps on fuel tanks? Has anything been used in the past? Engines and coaches?

Locking fuel caps can sometimes cause more problems than they solve.

I work in construction, and have seen more than one instance where the crook couldn't get the locking fuel cap open so they simply poked a hole in the tank, put a pan underneath and took the fuel that way.

(Yes, poking a hole in a fuel tank is dangerous and stupid, but so is stealing copper electrical lines while they have 110 volts running through them. They both happen a lot more often than you might suspect...)

Granted, it will probably stop a kid with a hose and a 5 gallon can, but it all depends on the crook and how bad they want the fuel.

Christ, not to long ago in Ontario, some guy caused $250,000 worth of damages to an electrical sub station while trying to steal a $50 cable... No wonder hydro expensive.
