Vehicle apparently based on Ford Motor Company designs.

Hey Bill, if you can get this car over to HOD, let's talk! I can see your idea having great possibilities as a museum fundraiser!

Howdy,

I am in the process of building a model t track auto right now. I just finished the lead truck and have the frame, driveline, rear axle, rear wheelsets, radiator, shell, fenders, running boards, and splash aprons. It is going to be a 1926 adapted into a open railbus of some sort. I know some folks in Maine are doing a SRRL model t railcar. It offers a neat sideline to steam work and is period technology.

Best,

Stathi

Wow! Please keep us posted Stathi, of your progress. I seem to recall reading somewhere that Model T's that were converted to rail service had a problem with overheating when running backwards. So keep that in mind!

Les,

Model t's have a problem overheating in any conditions if the cooling system is not perfect, let alone running backwards! I am not an old car kind of guy but the technology in a T is very similar to that found in steam locomotives, hence my interest. I figured a good way to justify doing a model t was a track auto. This will be no show piece when done but should be a fun way to do smoke chasing or track inspection. Anyway, thank you for the interest and I will keep you posted as major progress is made.

Best,

Stathi

The Little River RR in Townsend, TN used a Model T track car for various duties for many years until it had a head on with Locomotive 110, the smallest standard guage Pacific made in the US. This locomotive today operates in Michigan:

If Linn or Kelly of SRR is listening, there's an idea for a period attraction...

Reminds of the bolt-on RR wheelsets made for Jeeps in WW2 to be used in the "critter" role on captured foreign railroads, after the engines were all shot and bombed out. They're rare as hen's teeth, most of them on Jeeps today were made in the past few years. It's a very popular thing at tourist RR's and military vehicle meets in Europe!

Hey Lee, do you have any pictures of Jeeps with these wheelsets in place? Sounds interesting, I'd kind of like to see that....
