We just went through an issue on another forum that expanded on some comments I previously made here. A group announcing an event that included a model show, sales tables, and fan trips, with two evenings of slide and movie presentations, provided just a one word description on their website for all their Friday and Saturday evening presentations - "Entertainment". Guys. this kind of stuff is disrespectful of both the presenters and the audience. If you can't be bothered writing a decent description of what presentations are going to be shown and who is going to show them, then why should anybody else be bothered pumping $4 a gallon gasoline into their car or taking the time to attend. Without the variety provided by programs and presentations a lot of events are just the same train rides and the same model contests and the same sales tables with the same vendors you had last year, the year before, and the years before that. It is amazing to me that people who can find lots of time to spend at their keyboards arguing with everybody else on the internet in discussion groups cannot take a few minutes to type out all the names of the people who are giving programs at their events and describe what material is going to be shown in those presentations, for a detailed information posting on their event website. Lazy descriptions aren't going to make the grade any more. I am not going to waste my time, effort, and money to drive across several states to see or participate in "entertainment". If that is the best description you can come up with, it is not good enough. I suspect that in this economy a lot of other people aren't going to be impressed by those lazy descriptions either. Again, sorry to be so blunt, but it is wake up time. Those who don't have a clue need to find one very soon. MX |
