Post subject:  Another Alco being scrapped

I found out today that the Becker Sand and Gravel Alco S-2 located near their shop outside Bennettsville, SC is being scrapped. Hanson now owns the quarry. In order to scrap the locomotive it was rolled down the bank. I do not know the heritage of this unit but it had the number 7104 in the number boards and was lettered for the Brownsville plant number 5. The 5 was the last locomotive in service at this plant and was withdrawn about 1991 or 92. Several attemps had been made in the past to purchase the S-2 but were always rebuffed. I guess the high price of scrap was to much to pass up.
