Smokebox mentioned in a post down below that there was a dentist office made out of an E7 in the Spokane area. All I was able to find was a rumor of supposed Spokane International 5808, but it is listed as an E8, and the link no longer works. Is there anyone out there who has a picture of this?

ItÂ’s an E-8, not E-7. I took a picture of it years ago (wearing a Daylight-esque scheme), so IÂ’ll have to dig it up. If I remember right, itÂ’s an ex Pennsy unit (arenÂ’t they all!), and that accounts for its original number.
The dentist had a coach and at least one caboose as well.
Speaking of privately owned cab units, does anyone have pictures of the old NP F that Dale Sanders bought from U.S. Steel back in the 1980s? I remember an article in CTC Board about moving the unit (a shell, really) across the West to California, where it was going to be restored as WP 920-D, I think.

Something in the back of my mind says that this dentist has been involved with the Inland Empire Railway Historical Society located in Spokane. Maybe even its president some years back,

Gents:

The Spokane International never owned any EMD power. The line, which operated from Spokane Washington northeastwards through Bonners Ferry Idaho to Eastport, where it interchanged with the Canadian Pacific. The line was primarily a bridge route between the UP and CP. The UP took over the line in the late 1950's and continues to run it today.

The SI's entire diesel roster was five Alco RS-1's. Carriers into Spokane that rostered E units of any flavor were the GN,UP and SP&S, the latter two were frequent visitors to Spokane.

The E-unit if I recall properly, is bequeathed to the Inland Empire Chapter of the NRHS. The whole assemblage, engine, passenger car (methinks its a heavyweight) and caboose, is on East Sprague Street in Spokane.

Speaking of wierd cut up cab units, have any of you guys seen the F-unit Roundhouse website? I'm not sure I'd have the guts to move the thing the way he did but once I had it in my backyard I'm also not sure I'd have had the heart to hack it up. Seems like a pretty fair teaching tool but then again.....

I believe I recall seeing once that this E unit in Spokane that is/was a dentist's office is actually a former Union Pacific E unit. Due to the relatively good condition of the UP E unit fleet, many of them survived to be repainted into other roads' colors as examples of those railroads. One of the E units back east that is painted as a NYC unit is also a former UP unit.
