Looks like a highway accident caused the end of a center cab locomotive being trucked. Was this a museum piece?

Accident happened last night. (Tuesday evening, May 20)
Its near Cincinnati, Ohio.
(couldnt tell that from the video..)

another news story says its a 80-ton loco.

thats all the info that can be found from news reports so far..

Has number 7948 on the cab..
appears (by me) to be a GE centercab..

google is bringing up nothing with that number..

According to the Critter list (on Yahoo) it is (was?) an 80 ton GE from Timkin, being moved from Ohio to Alabama...

The loco was indeed ex-Timken 80 ton GE 7948. It was apparently en route to a new commercial owner, not a museum.

Cause appears to have been a failure of the trailer gooseneck to deck attachment.

Delivery may be "somewhat delayed."

(We at Pennsylvania Trolley Museum feel relief because we just took delivery of a 25 ton GE by truck on Saturday 5/17. By comparison, our loco move, from Carlisle, PA, went beautifully. It's at the museum in one piece, and that's what counts. For the record, ours is GE 31789 5/53, originally Landis Tool Co. n#, Waynesboro, PA. Anyone out there got a photo of it at Landis? Or at Isaacs Bros. Scrap at Defiance, OH? Or at Agway at Pier 122 in Philly?)

Wow! That's a story you don't hear every day.

At this point it appears the locomotive is carrying the weight of the freeway. Glad GE builds them well. So what happens to a bridge like that if you kick out a set of support beams?

The hauler is in for some expense fixing the bridge. We recently had a truck take out a crucial bit of freeway in the Bay Area. That was let out for bid quickly, with a $5 million bonus for quick completion. The high bidder bid about $900,000, and completed it 29 days early. Since the bonus was $200,000 per day, he didn't even get paid for four of those days.

I recently saw on our local PBS station KCET a 1/2 hour program about that rebuild. The program was put together by the professional engineers organization that represents engineers at CalTrans. The film has its own website: Amazing: The Rebuilding of the MacArthur Maze and a DVD is available for $14.99.

The contractor is one that also handled rebuilds after several of the earthquakes. He figures out how to get a job done quick and get the early completion bonus. And otherwise seems to think "outside the box." C.C. Myers, Inc

Seems to me that their $50 million estimate for repairs is kind of high.

The TV show on the YouTube link seem to show the wrong interchange on their map. If you want to go in person, the real location is is about 3 interchanges West.
