For all you CNJ steam and restoration fans: Last week a new water jet cut front tube sheet was installed along with the front tube sheet braces on CNJ 113, and this weekend many hands installed all the 2" tubes and all but 12 of the superheater flues. This has really moved the project to the point where an actual steam up of the boiler is now in sight. There are still a number of things which have to be done including finishing installation of the remaining flexible staybolts. The check valve and water glass valves have to be installed to prepare it for the hydrostatic test. Many more people are visiting the restoration site now that progress is being made. Increased publicity is putting the project on more people's minds and there is an aura surrounding the locomotive which is attracting interest as the locomotive nears actual operation. We would like to congratulate our neighbors at the WK&SRR on their purchase and successful move of their newly purchased 2-6-2. We will watch your project with anticipation and the knowledge of what it takes to bring a locomotive from the dead. The more steam locomotives running in an area, the better. #4 is the perfect size tourist railroad locomotive. Bernie Perch |

Thank you for the report, Bernie: Every time I drive through the Minersville area, I try to get my own photo update. Good luck on the hydro, and any other tests before your first run. So far, this has been quite a year for resurrected steam. |

Awesome..Pennsylvania is rapidly becoming something of a ground zero for steam-in addition to the WK&S acquisition, theres the Reading & Northern trips from Port Clinton to Jim Thorpe & Tunkannock to Jim Thorpe, trips at Steamtown to the East & North...and of course Strasburg & the M&H... |

Awesome to hear. I remember stopping by to see the 113 about 10 years ago (I think?) and wondering if it was just a pipe dream. Glad to see its really moving forward. |

Ditto!! Awesome job! Keep digging If you guys get 113 going and then SR 401 gets under steam that's at least two "new" steam locomotives up and running. |

This is exciting. I remember seeing her at Locust Summit before she was brought down to Wilmington. What a brute! She has to be one of the biggest 0-6-0 types ever. Is there a plan and place to run her? |

over the years, there have been many steam projects in the Keystone State. I have more steam preservation post cards in my collection from that state than any other. I am glad that the state is continuing the tradition. Ted miles |

Refreshing to hear something of a positive nature when we are often subjected to "why it can't/shouldn't be done theories. Won't people be 'wowed" to see a Jersey Central steam loco rolling under her own power once again? Though merely an 0-6-0, this may rate alongside restoration of the K4s for bringing in those devoted to an Atlantic state road. |
